چکیده

This paper will explore the technology behind corrugated model morphing wings and their potential benefits to society. The two major models of corrugated morphing wings will be examined and explained. In order to provide background, the technology and shape behind all morphing wings will also be examined. The applications of these wings will then be explored. Using data from wind tunnel testing and real world testing these wings will be compared to those of conventional aircraft to justify their production and use over the conventional wing in the fields of both military and commercial applications. The effect of these wings on fuel consumption will also be examined as part of this justification. Then the ethical issues facing the aerospace industry and how they relate to morphing wings will be examined. This will allow for further explanation of the potential benefits provided by morphing wings from an ethical standpoint as well as the potential issues that may be faced. Finally, the improvements to sustainability for the aircraft industry provided by the technology will be evaluated. Scientific articles, experimental results, and information from the companies currently developing this technology will be consulted in the evaluation these corrugated wings. The efficacy, aerodynamic properties, safety, and benefits will be discussed while explaining this new technology. Key Words—Aerospace, Corrugated, Leading edge, Morphing, Trailing edge, Wing AN INTRODUCTION TO MORPHING

In some applications such as morphing technology, high strain and anisotropic behavior are considered a good advantage. The corrugated composite sheets due to their special geometries have a potential of high deflection under axial loading. In this research, to investigate the strain and anisotropic behavior of corrugated composite sheets some glass/epoxy samples with Quasi-sinusoidal, trapezoi...

Pareto Optimization of Two-element Wing Models with Morphing Flap Using Computational Fluid Dynamics, Grouped Method of Data handling Artificial Neural Networks and Genetic Algorithms

A multi-objective optimization (MOO) of two-element wing models with morphing flap by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques, artificial neural networks (ANN), and non-dominated sorting genetic algorithms (NSGA II), is performed in this paper. At first, the domain is solved numerically in various two-element wing models with morphing flap using CFD techniques and lift (L) and drag ...

Morphing Wing Technologies Research

The development of innovative adaptive structures on UAVs (and UUVs), such as morphing wings, can potentially reduce system complexity by eliminating control surfaces and their auxiliary equipment. This technology has the potential of allowing a UAV to adapt to different mission requirements or executing a particular mission more effectively. The first part of the paper deals with a review of m...

Crushing Analysis of Empty and Foam-Filled Cylindrical and Conical Corrugated Composite Tubes

In the present article, a numerical study is performed to investigate the crushing behavior of cylindrical and conical corrugated composite tubes. Different aluminum foams are applied to the proposed structures in order to offer an excellent energy absorption capacity. The crushing behavior of tubes are evaluated in terms of two parameters: SEA (specific energy absorption) and CFE (crush force ...

Digital Morphing Wing: Active Wing Shaping Concept Using Composite Lattice-Based Cellular Structures

We describe an approach for the discrete and reversible assembly of tunable and actively deformable structures using modular building block parts for robotic applications. The primary technical challenge addressed by this work is the use of this method to design and fabricate low density, highly compliant robotic structures with spatially tuned stiffness. This approach offers a number of potent...
